Mica tape

Mica tape

Mica tapes based on phlogopite and muscovite mica papers are applied in insulation systems of turbo- and hydro-generators, high-voltage electrical machines, traction motors and cables. Depending on the resin content mica tapes are classified as:

  • non-impregnated (porous) mica tapes which are used for vacuum pressure impregnation method (VPI technology);
  • pre-impregnated mica tapes which contain 20-35% of resin can be used for Resin-Rich technology when insulation systems are manufactured by hot pressing and hydrostatic pressing method;
  • impregnated mica tapes which contain up to 20% of the binder and can be used for insulation systems manufacture by VPI method. These tapes differ from porous tapes by better elasticity and softness.

Mica tapes impregnated by silicon binder are also applied in fire-resistant cables capable to operate in the open fire for up to 3 hours in cables contruction.

Impregnated mica tapes for VPI-Technology:

Such tapes are used for turn and mainwall insulation in windings and coils of low- and high-voltage electrical machines up to 11 kV, also in hydro-, turbo-generators and traction motors.

* - can be produced with an accelerator/catalyst (Zinc octoate etc.) 0,2%, 0,3%, 0,4% for epoxy-anhydride based resins or without it, depending on the applied type of impregnation resin

Pre-impregnated mica tapes for Resin –Rich Technology:

These tapes are applied as turn and mainwall insulation made by Resin-Rich technology in different kinds of electrical machines. Tapes differ from each other by the resin they are impregnated.

Non-impregnated (porous) mica tapes for VPI-Technology:

These tapes are intended for turn and mainwall insulation of systems manufactured by VPI technology. Tapes LSKN-F/H-160-TT can be applied for replacement of asbestos-containing electrical motor operators in the coils of traction motors’ magnetic structure. All tapes can be produced with an accelerator/catalyst (Zinc octoate etc.) 0,2%, 0,3%, 0,4% for epoxy-anhydride based resins or without it, depending on the applied type of impregnation resin.

Name Composition Thermal class Thickness, mm Surface density, g/m2 Volatiles content, max %

LSKN-F/H-160-TT Glass cloth/ Mica/ Glass cloth F/H 0,13 160 ±17 0,7

Thermal class of these tapes is defined by the impregnation resin.
